In this guide, we will show you a nifty workaround to fix the issue of Hide Source not working in Google News. The feed from the Silicon Valley giant consists of curated news based on your browsing history and the type of content you mostly interact with. The algorithm that it follows is the same across its Feed [which is present left of your home screen], in the Google App, as well as on the Chrome home page. In most cases, it does a great job of providing news in sync with our requirements.
However, there could be a few rare instances wherein the news that it’s displaying isn’t what you intended to view or there’s a change in plan and you don’t want to view news from a specific topic. In both these cases, Google has you covered, well, sort of. Google gives you the option to hide the news from a specific source or topic in the news, which could be done via the overflow icon present next to each news card or via the emoticon [sad face, thumbs down emoji, etc].
Unfortunately, this method is no longer working. Even if a user instructs Google not to show news from a particular subject, it just simply ignores those instructions and continues to show news that might be based on your dislikes! While this is definitely quite an infuriating bug, but there does exist a nifty workaround that should help you rectify this issue. So without further ado, let’s check it out.
Fix Cannot Hide Source in Google News
The culprit behind this issue is the latest update rolled out by Google to its app. So to rectify it, you’ll have to downgrade the app to its earlier stable build. Here’s how it could be done:
- Head over to Settings > Apps > All Apps > Google App/News.
- Then tap on the overflow icon and select Uninstall Updates.
- Tap OK in the confirmation prompt and check out the result.
That’s it. These were the steps to fix the issue of the Hide Source not working in Google News. As far as the official stance on this matter is concerned, the developers are yet to acknowledge this issue, let alone give out any ETA for the rollout of a fix. As and when any of these two things happen, we will update this guide accordingly. In the meantime, the aforementioned workarounds are your best bet.
