In this guide, we will show you various methods to fix the issue of RCS not working on iPhones running the latest iOS 18. The green bubble vs blue bubble has been one of the longest-standing rivalries in the OS ecosystem. On one hand, the Cupertino giant doesn’t want you to leave its ecosystem and stay confined within its walled garden. And for that, it has given you its own iMessage app, which works wonders with other iPhones and iPads.

But when it comes to cross-platform communication with its counterpart, aka Android, then this begins to go south. While the Silicon Valley giant has its own Rich Communication Services for its OS and has done quite its bit to make RCS compatible with iOS, however, the Cupertino giant never decided to keep the gates of its walled garden open to its competitors, thereby resulting in the users being the ultimate suffers.

As a result of this, if you own an Android device and are having a conversation with an iPhone user, then you’ll miss all the useful goodies, including the likes of read receipts, typing indicators, location sharing, and the ability to send high-resolution media. While users outside the US have easily solved this problem by switching over to a third-party app like WhatsApp, Telegram, or Signal, however, in the US, using a messaging app other than iMessage is considered a sin.

So what’s next? Well, Apple took a rather surprising move by [finally] incorporating RCS into its ecosystem. However, the initial journey seems to be a rough one for its users as many have voiced their concern that RCS is not working along the expected lines on their iPhones running the latest iOS 18. If you are also facing the same issue then this guide will help you out. Follow along for the fixes.

It is recommended that you try out each of the below-mentioned workarounds and then see which one spells out success. So with that in mind, let’s get started.

Update to iOS 18

This feature is only available on iPhones running the latest iOS 18 [stable/beta]. So if you haven’t updated your device, now might be the perfect time. So carry out this tweak, restart your device, and then check if you get the RCS or not.

The next basic workaround in our list involves toggling the RCS feature on your iPhone. This will refresh its underlying settings and might rectify the issue that we are currently dealing with. So give it a try using the below-listed steps and check out the results:

  1. First off, head over to Settings > Apps > Messages.
  2. Now turn off the toggle next to the RCS Messaging.
  3. Then wait for a few seconds and re-enable the toggle.
  4. Check if RCS is working on your iPhone with iOS 18.

Verify Carrier Support for RCS

One of the most common reasons RCS missing from iPhone is the lack of carrier support. So make sure to verify that your carrier has provided an updated carrier profile to Apple for RCS to be enabled on your device. With that said, here’s a non-comprehensive list of all the carriers across the world that support RCS [do note that this is not the complete list,  more countries will be added, so do keep a tab on this list at regular intervals].

Verify Android Recipient’s RCS Support

This is where many users are getting stuck. Even if you could manage things at your end on your iPhone, it might be a difficult task to do so on an Android. The single biggest reason for the same is the fact that this feature is only available in the Google Message app whereas each OEM has its own messaging app.

So there are numerous users out there who don’t even use the messaging app from Google and are still looking to get their hands on RCS, which is just not possible. So ask them to install the Google Message app from the Play Store and then set up the RCS in the app. Once that is done, wait for a couple of minutes, and then you should be able to use RCS with your Android counterpart without any issues.

For RCS Group Chat Users

A slew of complaints are lined up wherein users have said that RCS is not working in group chats. The reason for this is quite simple- one or more members have yet to enable RCS on their devices. Even if one out of 10 members hasn’t enabled Rch text Services on their device, the repercussions will be faced by all the other members of that group and no one will be able to use RCS in that group.

That’s it. These were the various methods that should help you fix the issue of RCS not working on your iPhone running the latest iOS 18. If you have any queries concerning the aforementioned steps, do let us know in the comments. We will get back to you with a solution as soon as possible.
