In this guide, we will show you an interesting method using which you can delete the 7-ZIP file/folder history. When it comes to archiver software, there are quite a few noteworthy players in this domain, however, none come close to the open-source 7-ZIP tool. Beholding a slew of intriguing goodies, its own archive format, the 7Z extension, is among the most popular ones out there.
However, there’s one glaring issue with this software, something that has been discussed for the past 15+ years, but the developers just refuse to acknowledge it, let alone fix it. Yes, we are talking about its History fiasco. The software records history in numerous instances, including but not limited to:
- 7-ZIP -> View -> Folder History (Alt + F12)
- When extracting via “Open Archive” -> “Extract”, a pop-up prompts the user where they want the extraction to occur, with a history of previously used paths.
- “Add to archive” also shows a history of previous archives.
Unfortunately, you cannot remove the traces of any of this history. Or is that really the case? Well, there does exist a slight technical way that will help you get this job done. So without further ado, let’s check it out.
