In this guide, we will show you the steps to downgrade your Xiaomi device from HyperOS 2 to HyperOS 1, i.e., from Android 15 to 14. The Chinese OEM has recently rolled out the fifteenth iteration of the OS build, and with that, there are a slew of intriguing goodies and some noteworthy features to the fore. On the flip side, though, some users have had issues with WiFi, performance being laggy, and the inability to flash custom ROMs and recoveries based on Android 15.
Not to mention the fact that the latter one is giving quite a tough time to the end users. If you are also facing any of these issues, then fret not. In this guide, we will show you the steps to downgrade your Xiaomi device from HyperOS 2 to HyperOS 1, i.e., from Android 15 to 14. So without further ado, let’s get started.
How to Downgrade Xiaomi from HyperOS 2 to HyperOS 1: Android 15 to 14
As opposed to all the other OEMs, you cannot simply flash the Android 14 firmware to perform a downgrade. There exists a stringent Anti Rollback Rule that you have to strictly follow [more on that later], otherwise, your device will end up in a bricked state. Moreover, it will also lead to a format data, so please take a complete device backup beforehand. Droidwin and its members wouldn’t be held responsible in case of a thermonuclear war, your alarm doesn’t wake you up, or if anything happens to your device, and data by performing the below steps.
STEP 1: What is Anti Rollback Index
First off, it is extremely important to understand exactly how Xiaomi’s Anti Rollback works. While we have already covered this topic in depth, both in the guide and video, and we will highly recommend you go through it once, still, just to recall, here’s the rule:
- If the current rollback index on your device is less than the rollback index in the ROM to be flashed, then the ROM will be flashed without any issues and the current rollback index will be increased to match the new rollback index [of the just flashed ROM].
- If the current rollback index on your device is equal to the rollback index in the ROM to be flashed, then the ROM will be flashed and there will be no change in the rollback index.
- If the current rollback index is greater than the rollback index in the ROM to be flashed, then the ROM will be rejected. But this will only happen if you’re flashing via fastboot or Mi Flash. However, if you are flashing the ROM via TWRP, then it will straightaway start the flashing process [as most TWRP builds don’t come with ARB check] and ultimately brick your device.
STEP 2: Check your Device Anti Rollback Index
For more detailed step-by-step instructions, check out this guide. The shorter instructions follow below:
- First, boot your device to Fastboot Mode via the below command:
adb reboot bootloader
- Now type in the below command to check the Anti Rollback Index.
fastboot getvar anti
STEP 3: Find Anti Rollback Index of Fastboot ROM
Now that you have got hold Anti Rollback Index of your device, it’s now time to find the Index of the Fastboot ROM which we are about to flash onto our device, which is HyperOS 1 based on Android 14.
- To begin with, download and install a text editor app like Notepad++.
- Then go to the extracted Fastboot ROM’s Images folder.
- Now, right-click on the flash_all.bat file and select Open with > Notepad++.
- Then use Ctrl+F and search for a similar line in the file [where X will be a number]
set CURRENT_ANTI_VER=X
- Now refer to the numerical value next to the “equals to” sign.
- That will be the Anti Rollback Index for your Fastboot ROM.
STEP 4: Which Fastboot ROM to Flash?
Now that you are aware of the Rollback Index of the Fastboot ROM as well as your device, you should now follow the below rule to flash the right Fastboot ROM for your device:
- If the Rollback Index of the Fastboot ROM that you are about to flash is equal to or greater than the current rollback index of your device, then you could flash that ROM via Mi Flash, Fastboot, or TWRP.
- If the Rollback Index of the Fastboot ROM is less than your current rollback index, then you should not flash that ROM via any method [Mi Flash or Fastboot might not even let you flash in the first place!].
STEP 5: How to Flash Fastboot ROM?
Once you have got hold of the Fastboot ROM that follows the above Rollback Index rule, you can now use the Mi Flash Tool to flash the Android 14 ROM onto your device. Just make sure to take a backup beforehand, as your device will undergo a reset.
Install MIUI Fastboot ROM via Mi Flash Tool on Xiaomi/Redmi/Poco
That’s it. This is all from this guide on how you can perform a downgrade of your Xiaomi device from HyperOS 2 Android 15 to HyperOS 1 Android 14. If you have any queries concerning the aforementioned steps, do let us know in the comments. We will get back to you with a solution as soon as possible.
FAQ: Can I Bypass the Anti-Rollback Index Rule?
In theory, there exists a workaround, and it has worked for a bunch of users, but we have also seen a few reports of bricked devices, not just softbrick but a hardbricked one! However, if you are among the brave souls and wish to try out this tweak, then here’s a guide for the same:
